Dr Steve Targett
Steve is a trained sports doctor and has almost 20 years experience in sports medicine. Hailing from Birmingham in the UK, Steve and his family moved to New Zealand in 1992. Four years later he and Glenn Muirhead (one of our physiotherapists) opened Capital Sports Medicine.
Steve has worked and continues to work with an impressive array of professional sports teams including the Hurricanes, the Wellington Phoenix football team and the Wellington Saints basketball team. Steve has been the medical director for the NZ Rugby Union since 2004 where he works two days a week.
On the non-professional side he has travelled with the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games teams and just to round things out he provides medical support to the Royal New Zealand Ballet and the New Zealand School of Dance.
With this wealth of experience Steve is now also a trainer for the Australasian College of Sports Physicians and has a sports medicine Registrar (Mark) working with him at the clinic.
Steve has hung up his boots after playing football for many years but keeps fit by running and swimming and has recently added golf to his sports repertoire. He has a passion for music and Hi-Fi. Then, when he’s not running around after his kids he likes to read contemporary fiction.
